A native Texan residing north of Bowie, Texas, Jan was introduced to a variety of art media by both of her parents, who were inspiring teachers to her.
Her artistic talents broadened throughout her earlier years. Jan studied art at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. Studies of interest included drawing, design, painting and sculpture.
After being employed in the insurance profession for twenty-seven years, Jan retired and returned to her real joy - the yearning to be creative. Jan feels that her desire for being creative not only comes from her parents, but also from her Divine Father, and she wishes to enlighten the souls for those who view her work.
Jan continues to explore and widen her knowledge in art. She has studied with artists such as Robert Burridge, Carol Nelson, and Judy Gelfert, among others. She appreciates the valued information and graciousness of those who have passed on their knowledge. Jan enjoys many different styles and techniques. She paints either from photographs or from her vast imagination. Jan is most known for her sculpted crosses, vibrant acrylics and mixed media paintings.
"I love so many different forms of creating art. I enjoy having fun and just being at peace with my inner-self. I can truly be lost in my work, whether it be realism or abstract."
Jan has achieved numerous awards for her work, which have been been featured in several different galleries and venues throughout Texas.
Jan is a member of the The Kemp Center for the Arts - as well as a member and officer of the Chisholm Trail Art Association. Her work is featured in the gift shop at The Kemp Center as well in the Robisons Gallery, both in Wichita Falls, Texas. Her work can be seen in several locations throughout north Texas.
